Advice for Parents and Advisors
A Chance to Go Further
As Clearing approaches many young people will need a little extra advice and support from someone they trust this year.
Regardless of exam results, Clearing is an opportunity to make sure choices and decision making are sensible based on personal circumstance.
Clearing is a huge opportunity
Most people still see Clearing as a bit of a back-up plan but those days are gone. It's no longer a last resort for students who didn't quite make the grade. Now it provides an excellent opportunity for them. More and more students are using Clearing as a way to get ahead – here's how and why...
They've Surpassed Their Exam Results
Some students will open that all-important envelope to discover that their actual results are higher than predicted. If that's the case, it can feel like they've missed an opportunity to apply to a course or university that they really wanted but didn't think they'd get.
It's important to remember that even top tier institutions now offer a number of places in Clearing. So, your young person can use Clearing to their advantage by finding a place more suited to their talents.
They've Changed Their Mind
Studies suggest that 1 in 4 students who go through Clearing, already have places agreed but have simply changed their minds. Choosing a university is a big decision, and how you feel about where you’re headed is just as important as any other criteria. Clearing now offers students an opportunity to browse a range of available courses at a broad range of institutions. And so for students with second thoughts, Clearing can present a positive way to change their minds.
